Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has urged Bhutan to use the Syedpur Airport for better connectivity, reports BSS.
“If Bhutan uses Syedpur Airport, both the countries could reap a boost in trade and tourism,” he said while Bhutanese Ambassador Sonam Rabgye met him at his secretariat office, said a ministry release.
Requesting the Bhutanese Ambassador to take necessary measures regarding the Syedpur airport, he said Bangladesh and Bhutan have a scope to expand bilateral trade further and it should be capitalized.
Bangladesh exports food, RMG items, pharmaceuticals and a few other products to Bhutan, but imports huge quantity of construction materials that poses a trade deficit for the country.
In fiscal 2017-18, Bangladesh’s export stood at US$4.4 million against the import of US$32.28 million.
Additional secretary Md Shafikul Islam was present during the meeting.
