With a rise in power demand, the government has taken an initiative to expand grid line. File PhotoThere is a plan to supply power produced in the mini-grid to the national grid. For this, the power department is making a guideline. Power department says that power cannot be supplied to many areas of the country using wires. In these areas, solar power is provided through mini-grid.
However, with a rise in power demand, the government has taken an initiative to expand the grid line.
This has put investors in the mini-grid into jeopardy since solar power costs more than power from the grid.
Power department has taken this problem into consideration.
Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority, SREDA, says that till now, 11 solar mini-grids have been established which has a combined power of 2.19 megawatt with work underway for another 15 solar mini-grid projects with a combined power of 3.17 megawatt.
Most of these projects are financed by IDCOL with plans for 61 more projects in the future.
In Salla, Sunamganj, a 650-kilowatt solar mini-grid was established which the biggest solar mini-grid in South Asia. In addition, 6 million homes in the country have solar home systems with work underway to take solar light to 4.9 million homes.
DG of Power Cell, Mohammad Hossain, said, “To save the investors of mini-grid, power produced by them will be added to the main grid and a committee formed in this regard will make a separate guideline.”
We have also started a net metering system, under which, a subscriber will manufacture power on his own yard and connect it to the national grid. When the subscriber is out of power, supply will be carried out from the national grid.
This will save expenses for the subscriber and also save government funds, he added.
