There are no reasons for commodity prices to soar in the upcoming month of Ramadan, according to Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.
“There’s enough stock of commodities against the demand, so there’s no reason for a price hike,” BSS quoted him saying on Wednesday.
He added the TCB will start open markets sales of essentials from May 6.
TCB or the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh is the commerce ministry’s arm, which imports commodities and sells to consumers, usually at a lower price.
The minister’s remarks came while speaking to the media in Bhola, his constituency.
“There’s ample stock of all kinds of essentials, including sugar, pulses and dates. So, the market will remain stable. Stern actions will be taken against unscrupulous traders,” said Ahmed.
