PHOTO/SAZZAD HOSSAINPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the maiden flight operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ first Dreamliner 787-8 on Wednesday.
‘Akash Beena’ will fly for Kualalumpur later in the day, said Biman Chairman Enamul Bari.
Initially, ‘Akash Beena’ will fly to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur every day of the week, he said.
The Dreamliner's economy class fare for its Singapore flight has been set at $200 (excluding taxes and other surcharges) and its Kuala Lumpur flight at $290.
On Aug 19, the national carrier entered a new era in aviation with the joining of the Dreamliner.
After landing in Dhaka from the US, it was received with the blowing of water cannons as it flew in from Seattle's Boeing Factory, after making an uninterrupted 15-hour flight.
In 2008, Biman Bangladesh Airlines signed a $2.1 billion deal with Boeing to purchase 10 new aircraft.
So far, four new Boeing 777-300 and two Boeing 737-800 aircraft were commissioned while the first one of the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is set for its maiden commercial flight on Wednesday.
The Boeing 787-8, designed to be 20 percent fuel efficient, has a total of 271 seats with 24 in business class and 247 in economy class.
It will provide its passengers with wifi services at a height of 43,000 feet, allowing passengers to browse the internet or connect with their friends and family at any end of the world.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines started its operation on Mar 4, 1972, with a Dhaka-London flight through a leased aircraft.
Two days later, on Mar 7, it started operating domestic flights to Sylhet and Chittagong.
