Phone Internet, slowed on Saturday evening, is starting to show signs of improvement.Phone Internet, slowed on Saturday evening, is starting to show signs of improvement. From Uttara, a GP subscriber said that he has used 4G in his phone from 10 am in the morning.
Relevant sources say that the full Internet speed will return by Sunday evening.
Acting BTRC chairman Md Jahurul Haque said: “Internet slowed down due to technical glitch and once it’s fixed, network will return to previous speed.”
On Saturday, subscribers alleged that mobile Internet was stopped deliberately due to the spread of rumours of students’ movement for safe roads and following clashes with Chhatra League and Jubo League activists.
But mobile phone operators did not make any comments on the matter while the common belief of deliberate slowing down of the net was not acknowledged by Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology minister, Mustafa Jabbar.
The minister said: “I have no information over the matter; a technical problem may be the cause.”
Many have said that Internet is not available in Grameenphone with the common belief that Internet was purposefully slowed to prevent the posting of photos and videos of alleged attacks on student protesters.
It’s believed that Internet speed was asked to be kept at 128 KBPS, though no one wanted to make any specific comment on it.
