Digital signature has started in the country and is being used in some government offices. However, this is not used in most private offices. Most people do not know of digital signature due to lack of awareness and, therefore, fail to understand its benefits.

Usually, many think that digital signature is a hand written sign scanned and then attached to a document. In reality, the signature is an encrypted version which is included in the message.

Usage of digital signature can prevent fraud and ensure that the right person has signed a document.

Digital sign contains two parts: one is the private key which is used to make the sign and second is the public key which is used to verify the signature.

Controller of Certifying Authorities, Abul Monsur Mohammad Sarfuddin says: “this did not catch on since it’s expensive; currently, only government institutes are using this.”

When people realise the importance of security in digital work, this signature will become popular, he hoped.

Saying that digital signature is being used in PC, laptops, he added that soon it will be used in mobile phones.

To make government work paperless, digital signature is essential and already, e-documents are using digital signature.

Digital signature will also prevent deception in e-commerce institutions.

But first, e-commerce institutes will have to take certificates from CCA. The certificate called Service Secured Layer, SSL, will fortify the website of the institution.

In 2011, six institutes were handed SSL certificates though one was cancelled since conditions were not met.
