After the High Court order about the closure of 'Blue Whale Game' within 6 months, the questions are already started to rise among the concerned community that how the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) will implement the order. The concerned community says, these games are not available in Google Play Store or Apple app store but only someone gets the link through email or inbox. It is ‘Dark Web’ content so it will not be easy to identify the source.
Yet BTRC is continuing to carry out its operations with its limited manpower. The agency says it will be possible to stop the spread of the Blue Whale, a fearsome game if everyone cooperates. The High Court has ordered to block all links and applications in this game. The concerned community thinks that if this could be implemented, then the Blue Whale will be erased from Dark Web.
It is said that the app cannot be removed or uninstalled, once it is installed on a Smartphone. As a result, the notification continues to come. At a certain time, people forced to play the game to become annoyed. So, the danger continues when it clicked on the links or sites.
According to Wikipedia, The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks which use the Internet but require specific software, configurations or authorization to access. The dark web forms a small part of the deep web, the part of the Web not indexed by search engines, although sometimes the term deep web is mistakenly used to refer specifically to the dark web.
Junaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT), told the Bangla Tribune, ‘At first, everybody must be aware of the game. We always have to be careful about ourselves, family, friends, and others in society. Otherwise, its spread cannot be prevented.
‘Many social media is spreading confusion. A force is creating and a temptation is spreading through the Facebook messenger. Everything is under our surveillance and the links are being identified and removed or blocked. We ordered the intelligence agencies and BTRC to block the links’, he added.
Sarwar Alam, the secretary of BTRC, if an IP address, URL (Universal Resource Locator) or link is available in the game, then BTRC is able to block the game. He said, 'The Commission has the capability and the efficiency to stop or block the game.’ Even if someone informs us (by calling or sending the link to 2872) of the game links, we will be able to block them.
Aminul Hakim, president of Internet Service Providers Association Bangladesh (ISPAB) told the Bangla Tribune, ‘We are blocking the game links by identifying the contents one by one. Everything will be blocked if there is anything found called ‘blue whale’, ‘blue’ or ‘whale’.
He further said, ‘We have received instructions from BTRC long ago. We are erasing or blocking the game according to the instructions. Especially, the game cannot be blocked totally.’
