Uniform call rate for mobile phones effective from Aug 14

According to the latest figures by the BTRC, the number of mobile subscribers was a little over 150 million by the end of June this year.A uniform call rate for mobile phones will be effective after Monday (Aug 13) midnight.
According to the new rate, operators will have to charge between Tk 0.45 and Tk 2 per minute.
The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has already forwarded directives to all the operators.
Mobile phone operators now charge between Tk 0.30 and Tk 0.39 per minute for on-net (same network) calls and Tk 0.91 to Tk 1.40 for off-net (other networks) calls.
The new rate excludes the option of on-net and off-net calls, BTRC acting Chairman Jahurul Haque told Bangla Tribune on Monday.
“The floor has been set at Tk 0.45 while the ceiling at Tk 2. The operators have been instructed to introduce it from Aug 14,” he said.

Grameenphone tops the chart boasting 69.17 million subscribers with the Robi commanding 44.72 million subscribers.
Banglalink is a distant third with 33.28 million subscribers while state-owned operator Teletalk is struggling with 3.76 million subscribers.
