The World Cup winning under 19 cricket team received a gala welcome at the airport. The team received a rousing reception and BCB president Nazmul Hassan has said that for the next two years, every player will get Tk 100,000 per month salary.

The grand reception at Suhrawardy Udyan has been postponed by a week because the players are tired and many will have to go to their homes, said BCB president.

While Bangladesh cricket has many memorable moments, with the national team playing at the World Cup quarter finals, winning against all top teams and the women’s team also providing thrills, the biggest success has come from the youth side.

“But nothing is bigger than winning the World Cup; this is due to our long term planning and we will have a two year deal with the cricketers and they will be given training plus Tk 100,000 salary per month,” said Hassan.

“We made Khaled Mahmud the head of the Game Development Committee and this is the result of a strategic approach, he said adding: “There aren’t any superstars here, it’s totally teamwork.”

These players are the future of cricket in Bangladesh and the onus lies on them to deliver in the future, observed Hassan.
