PHOTO/Sazzad HossainThe logo of special edition of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) named after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been unveiled.
Flanked by the top officials of Bangladesh Cricket Board, its President Nazmul Hasan unveiled the ‘Bangabandhu BPL’ logo by releasing confetti at a programme in Dhaka on Saturday (Nov 16).
Nazmul said Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the T20 tournament on Dec 8.
PHOTO/Sazzad Hossain“This year, the tournament will be a special edition. Unlike previous editions, local players will be given priority to benefit the domestic cricket,” he added.
At the programme, name of the seven teams participating the tournament were announced namely Dhaka Platoon, Chattogram Challengers, Premier Bank Khulna Tigers, Sylhet Thunders, Rangpur Rangers, Rajshahi Royals, and Cumilla Warriors.
This year, the BCB revamped model of the T20 tournament ruling out the franchises. The board named the seventh edition of BPL after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman to commemorate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation.
PHOTO/Sazzad HossainThe curtain of the tournament will be unveiled on Dec 8 and the first match will be played on Dec 11 while players' draft will be held on Sunday (Nov 17).
This year, the BCB will be managing the gala event single-handedly and bearing the cost of arrangements as well as the players' fees.
