Senior BNP leader Moudud AhmedThe BNP’s next course of actions depends on how the election to the Gazipur City Corporation turns out, elections, says senior leader Moudud Ahmed.
Describing the Jun 26 the polls as an ‘acid test’ for the government and the Election Commission (EC), he warned of consequences, if it turns out to be the one held for Khulna City Corporation.
The BNP National Standing Committee member’s remarks came on Saturday at a discussion of the Bangladesh Youth Forum at capital’s National Press Club on Saturday.
“We will finalise party candidates for Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barishal mayor elections after the Gazipur polls.
“Someday Khaleda Zia will be released and we will vie in the election under her leadership”, he said.
The BNP has no confidence on the EC as it has failed to withdraw the ‘Awami League loyal’ Gazipur police chief, said Moudud.
According to him, the ruling party may hatch conspiracies to foil national election. “Awami League will never want to lose power as then it would be clear to the people that they have amassed billions.”
