BNP leader Mafidul Hasan Tripti has been arrested from his residence in Dhaka in connection with the murder of former National University VC Professor Aftab Ahmed, said the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
He was taken away from his home in capital’ Banani Wednesday evening, said the family.
“Some men, who identified themselves as CID officials, took him away around 6pm. We are yet to trace him,” his wife Supriya Kamal told Bangla Tribune.
CID Special Superintendent SM Enamul Kabir said the arrests were made based on confessions by four suspects in custody over the killing.
“The suspects gave several names, including Tripti. We have been looking for him quite some time and managed to arrest him today,” he told Bangla Tribune.
In September 2006, Prof Ahmed was shot by assailants inside his home. He succumbed to the injuries while being treated at the Combined Military Hospital.
