The government has begun a planned drive against corruption and terrorism and campaigns are  ON  to fulfil electoral pledges.

Ruling party leaders feel that the drive will bolster the government’s image. Party leaders say that the PM has ordered this drive to root out vile elements which have exploited and manipulated party ties to create a personal axis of influence and become wealthy beyond imagination.

Some leaders have said that the purging operation is aimed to cleanse the AL and present before the public a transparent political party.

Top leaders feel that the achievements of the government have often been overshadowed by the misdeeds of some corrupt elements and the trafficking of drugs only deepened the rot.

Since the unethical operations are being carried out in the name of AL, the ultimate loser is the party, feel top leaders, who assert, “Considering these issues, the government has taken a zero-tolerance stance to uproot corruption and drugs.”

Before the 11th national parliamentary elections, the AL declared in its “Bangladesh on the path to prosperity” manifesto, its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and a promise to eradicate militancy, sectarianism and terrorism.”

AL leaders say that the operations may seem sudden but they were planned beforehand. On Monday (Sept 23), state minister for public administration, Forhad Hossain, commented: “The purging is being carried out at the order of the PM.”

The same day, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, said unequivocally: “we will not spare anyone; those who are involved in nefarious acts will be arrested.”

AL praesidium members, Kazi Zafrullah, said: “We started the drive against drugs and the campaign against crime and corruption took some time since we had the election, two Eids and the month of mourning.”

Expressing pride over the drive, he added: “This is an excellent, timely move which is also pro-people; the masses are happy; for a few nasty elements the party’s image was being tarnished and the people were being exploited.”
