Ensuring all-inclusive polls EC’s job, not govt’s: Quader

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader. (FILE PHOTO)The government has nothing to do with ensuring an all-incisive polls and it’s the Election Commission which has to step in to bring all parties, says ruling Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Speaking to reporters after visiting the of Patia bypass road construction site in Chattogram, he said, “The Commission will carry out all electoral processes that includes creation of level playing field after the announcement of polls schedule.”
“The government can do nothing if the EC seek assistance it can help only,” said Quader, the road transport minister.
He said, “No matter how much the BNP dreams, a ‘2001-like blueprint election’ will never be held in Bangladesh anymore.”
On the progress of the bypass road project, the minister said, “Construction of 5.2 kilometer bypass road costs Tk 1 billion approximately.”
The project is expected to finish on January next year – six months ahead of its deadline on June 2019, he said.
