Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has urged the BNP to “not politicise a religious matter such as iftar.”
His remarks came on Wednesday (May 29) while speaking to the media about incarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s Tk 30 iftar which is allocated for her by jail authorities.
“I had no idea that something like this could be politicised. We are making arrangements as per the jail code,” he said.
“You’ll have to abide by the jail code if you’re in jail,” he added.
Addressing BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, he said, “If you think Begum Zia is not satisfied with the Tk 30 iftar and if it’s not enough for her then we can tell the authorities to make extra arrangements.”
“Don’t make senseless politics out of it,” Quader said.
The road transport and bridges minister said that there shouldn’t be any controversy regarding this as the jail authorities provide food as per the existing jail code.
