Chattra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, has started selling nomination forms for the Dhaka University Central Student`s Union (DUCSU) election slated for Mar 11.Chattra Dal, the student wing of the BNP, has started to sell nomination forms for the Dhaka University Central Student's Union (DUCSU) election slated for Mar 11.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Publicity Affairs Secretary Shaheed Uddin Annie opened the nomination form sales on Saturday (Feb 23) at the party headquarters in Naya Paltan.

Terming the party’s decision to take part in the DUCSU polls as positive Annie said, “We have started selling the nomination forms from today (Saturday).”

The top four Chattra Dal leaders including the central committee president and general Secretary are not eligible to run for the DUCSU polls as they don’t fall in the minimum criteria which stipulate that graduate, undergraduate and MPhil students under 30 can contest the election.

DUCSU was formed a year after Dhaka University was established in 1921. Though DUCSU elections are to be held every year, there have only been six since independence.

The last election was held on Jun 6, 1990.

In January this year, the High Court settled a six-year-old rule on the issue, ordering the polls to be held by six months.

A total of 25 posts in the central union, and 13 posts in each hall unions will be contested in the Mar 11 DUCSU polls.
