On Dec 30, 1980, former president Ziaur Rahman established the Krishak Dal to ensure proper rights of farmers. However, despite being part of the main party, the Krishak Dal has been silent for some time. At last, efforts are being taken by the BNP central committee to inject some vitality into this moribund wing.
BNP’s agriculture secretary, Shamsuzzoha Khan, told Bangla Tribune, the Krishak Dal has not had a committee for a long time; we talked several times to the relevant authority but the committee was not formed.
But the situation will change soon and programmes will be taken for the interest of the farmers, he added.
General-secretary of the Krishak Dal and BNP vice chairman, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, says, “The country is under an authoritarian regime since 2008; so in that light, we have chalked out a few programmes involving farmers.”
The Krishak Dal did not have a summit after 1998.
We wanted to hold summits, in 2006 and 2012, but it was not possible, said Dudu and added, posters were also made for the Krishak Dal summit slated for 27 February, 2017 but it could not be held due to the restive political situation.
Reportedly, the convener committee of the Krishak Dal will be declared next week which will form a committee within three months. General secretary of the current committee Shasuzzaman Dudu may become the convener of the committee.
It’s found that BNP’s vice chairman, Md Shahjahan, Dudu, Abdus Salam, Ataur Rahman Dalim and others want to lead the Krishak Dal and have begun lobbying.
Office secretary of Krishak Dal, S K Sadi, said, “There is a myth in BNP that if someone becomes president, vice president or general secretary of Krishak Dal their chances of becoming BNP secretary general becomes easier.”
