A key ally in the 20-party Alliance, Jamaat, helped the collation, which was then Four-party Alliance, to assume office in 2001.Liberation war researchers and observers of the International Crimes Tribunal, ICT, feel that the demand raised by former Jamaat member, Abdur Razzak, is a political stunt.
This statement was given by the recently resigned assistant secretary general, Barrister Abdur Razzak, as part of a crisis moment strategy to ensure the party’s existence, researchers and observers feel.
They took this vile strategy after the PM declared to ban Jamaat.
AL’s general secretary and bridges minister, Obaidul Quader, said that irrespective of what was said by Abdur Razzak, the tribunal will go on.
Last Friday, Jamaat’s former secretary general, Abdur Razzak, spoke about restructuring Jamaat.
Many see this as a last ditch attempt by Jamaat to remain as a legitimate political force.
Barrister Tuhin Afroz, says, “Barrister Razzak worked as a lobbyist and an advocate for major war criminals and also has human rights abuse allegations against him; with such a background, his rhetoric about revamping Jamaat is actually a ploy.”
AL’s general secretary, Obaidul Quader has said that this may be part of a plan by Jamaat.
Prosecutor of the ICT, Rana Das Gupta, says, “No one from the party talked of changing their ideals, which is worrying.”
Calling Jamaat’s plan to change the name and format of the party a long term conspiracy, Shahriar Kabir, said, “Jamaat is engaging in nefarious plans to save their ideology and avoid charges of genocide.”
Abdur Razzak did not specify for what Jamaat should apologise, said Shahriar Kabir.
Barrister Razzak was also a member of the Al Badr, a collaborator group of the invading Pakistan army.
The nation has to be cautious of their malicious plans, he warned.
