Oikya Front meeting underway without BNP

Jatiya Oikya Front’s component Nagorik Oikya chief Mahamudur Rahman Manna is seen entering the Motijheel offices of alliance’s leader and Gano Forum President Kamal Hossain on Thursday (Jan 17)A meeting of Jatiya Oikya Front’s policymaking from is underway without representatives from the opposition coalition’s largest member, the BNP.
Steering Committee members sat for a meeting on Thursday (Jan 17), at the Motijheel offices of alliance’s leader and Gano Forum President Kamal Hossain.
Senior BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told Bangla Tribune that he was not aware of any meeting.
“All I can say is, I have been not informed about a meeting,” BNP National Standing Committee member Hossain, who sits on the Oikya Front panel, said.
According to Oikya Front insiders, the meeting is set to discuss the next course action as well as over the ‘national dialogue’ demanding fresh elections.
Pro-BNP professionals’ group leader Zafrullah Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) chief ASM Abdur Rab, Nahorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna, Gano Forum General Secretary Mostofa Mohsin Montu, Jatiya Oikya Prokriya’s Sultan Mohammad Monsur are attending the meeting presided over by Kamal Hossain among others, they said.
Speaking to Bangla Tribune before entering the meeting, Manna said the meeting is likely to discuss the “national dialogue as well as post-election strategies”.
No BNP representatives attended the meeting until 6pm. Despite several attempts, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir could not be reached for a comment.
Krishak Sramik Janata League chief Kader Siddiki also did not join the meeting.
