The Jatiya Oikya Front has urged the Election Commission to order authorities to release people held on ‘political charges’.
The call came on Monday (Dec 3) in a letter sent to Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.
“The Election Commission should order to the home ministry to release any political leader or activist in a political case,” reads the letter signed by Oikya Front Chief Coordinator Mostofa Mohsin Montu.
It said no arrests for political reasons can be made after the Commission announced the names of valid candidates. “Especially, no candidate should be harassed.”
For the sake of a free, fair and credible election, the coalition urged the CEC to initiate measures to release people “detained in political cases.”
On Sunday (Dec 2), the Commission trashed 786 nominations out of the 3,056 filed declaring 2,279 candidates valid for the 11th parliamentary election slated for Dec 30.
