Jatiya Party Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga speaks to the media at the party chief’s Banani offices on Monday (Dec 3).Jatiya Party’s newly-installed Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga has vowed to strengthen it and turn it to a “democratic organisation”.
His remarks came while addressing the media on Monday (Dec 3), hours after the HM Ershad-led party replaced ABM Ruhul Amin Howlader with Ranga.
“We have opened initiatives to reorganise the grassroots level as well as recruit and develop more activists to strengthen the party,” he told the media call at the party chief’s Banani offices.
The Jatiya Party expects 52 seats from the Awami League-led Grand Alliance for the upcoming general election, Ranga said before adding: “But everything will be finalised after talks ... the matter of seat sharing will be completed by Dec 9 and there’s no room for a misunderstanding within the Grand Alliance.”
Earlier in the day, Howalder was replaced by Ranga as the secretary general of the Jatiya Party.
A letter sent to Ranga from the party’s letterhead from Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad on Monday said: “We are appointing you as the secretary general to the Jatiya Party. You will take on the duties in addition to those as a member of the party’s Presidium.”
The decision would be implemented without delay, said Ershad’s Political Secretary and Jatiya Party Presidium Member Sunil Shuvo Roy said in a statement to the media.
Responding to a query at the media call, Ranga said they would take actions of anyone within the party is found to be involved in taking money in exchange of the party’s ticket for the Dec 30 polls. “If needed, we will open an inquiry.”
Jatiya Party leaders had recently complained that HM Ersad and Howlader were charging exorbitant sums for nomination papers. Howlader, however, had denied the allegations, calling them ‘propaganda’.
