Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh chief AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury-led Jukto Front has called for deferring the national election by a week.
In a written statement, issued soon after the schedule was announced on Thursday, Chowdhury urged the Election Commission to hold the voting on Dec 30.
In a televised address to the nation, Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda has set Dec 23 as election day.
The deadline for filing the nominations ends on Nov 19 and the last day to withdraw from the race has been fixed Nov 29. The Bikalpa Dhara president called for rescheduling the deadlines to Nov 26 and Dec 6 respectively.
“It seems to us that the time for filing nominations is not adequate.
“It will be tough (for the political parties) to scrutinise and interviewing those seeking the ticket,” reads the statement.
