Newly formed alliance the Jatiya Oikya Front has held a meeting with legal experts on Sunday to chalk out the legal aspects for free, fair and all-inclusive general election in line with the Constitution.
Constitutional law expert Shahdeen Malik, Dhaka University law teacher Asif Nazrul and Sheikh Borhan Uddin attended the meeting at BNP leader Moudud Ahmed’s law firm offices at Dhaka’s Motijheel.
“Several provisions in the Constitution stipulates of holding the national election with or without dissolving the parliament. But a level playing field can’t be ensured if the parliament is not dissolved. The ruling party will be benefited,” Malik told the media after emerging from the meeting.
He said a free, fair and credible election is possible under the Constitution and the existing laws. “The issue can be resolved within the legal framework if there’s a political will.”
According to the lawyer, the Constitution does stipulate several times of holding the general with the parliament dissolved, but not with the House adjourned or defunct.
