The High Court (HC) has ordered the Election Commission (EC) to register Barrister Nazmul Huda-led ‘Trinamul BNP’ as a political party.

The bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Shohrowardi passed the order on Sunday (Nov 4).

Barrister Nazmul Huda moved for his petition while Deputy Attorney General Amatul Karim represented the state.

On Aug 14, the HC issued a rule asking why Trinamul BNP won’t get registration as a political party. The chief election commissioner, election commission secretary, assistant secretary, and the government were asked by the court to submit a response.

On Jun 14, EC disapproved registration for Trinamul BNP on grounds including failure to apply within the said timeframe and not submitting the invoice.

Later, Huda filed a petition with the HC challenging the EC’s decision.
