“The EC can take a decision as per the majority and this is the beauty of inner democracy. Any member has the right to disagree to other’s decision,” General Secretary Obaidul Quader said on Tuesday (Oct 16).
Regarding the note of decent of Commissioner Mahbub Talukder, Quader said the president appointed the commissioners upon recommendation made by a search panel.
“He (President) had sought names from political parties. As per the lists, Mahbub Talukder was nominated as EC from the BNP. The EC could take a decision on the basis of majority”, he added.
“His (Mahbub) note of decent will not create any bar on holding the forthcoming national polls” said the Road Transport Minister told the media after visiting the newly constructed building of BRTA (Bangladesh Road Transport Authority) in city’s Banani area.
On the new anti-government coalition, Quader said, “The unity forged recently by Jatiya Oikya Front involving BNP and several other parties will fail soon as it’s a fragile unity.
“Such unity would never sustain. Their unity is fragile and their efforts will go in vain soon,” he
Quader, also the general secretary of Awami League, said the leaders of the unity left out the Juktafront from their Jatiya Oikyafront tactfully. Gonaforum President Dr Kamal Hossain had shut his door after inviting former president Dr AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury. Even, Dr Kamal left his home that time, he added.
About Dr Kamal, the ruling party leader said he (Kamal) formed his own party ‘Ganoforum’ after leaving Awami League. “He thought that thousands of people would join his party. But the countrymen didn’t give any response to him. Dr Kamal is isolated from the people,” he added.
Quader said Tarique Rahman is now the acting chairman of BNP and he will operate the Oikyafront from London. “Dr Kamal forged a unity after accepting his (Tarique) leadership to topple Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he added.
The minister said, “His (Dr Kamal) aim is not to go in power. His aim is toppling the Sheikh Hasina government. Therefore, he has no objection to accept the leadership of Tarique Rahman.”
About the AL’s alliance centering the polls, Quader said, “We need to wait more. The working committee will take a decision to this end. None can say about the alliance without the decision of the committee. ”
He said, “We have no headache about BNP or any other coalition. The politics of BNP is narrowing day by day.”
The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the newly-constructed BRTA Bhaban and Sarak Bhaban after returning from Saudi Arabia.
