Implementing the Digital Security act is another attempt to consolidate an authoritarian regime in the country, said BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“Awami League has completely disregarded the spirit of the Liberation War to establish Bangladesh as an independent, democratic country,” he said at a discussion at the capital’s Lakeshore Hotel on Monday (Oct 8).
He added that approving this bill is AL’s way of cementing an autocratic rule in the country and a tool to reign in freedom of speech.
The media community as well as the general people have deep reservations about certain clauses in the act, lashed out Fakhrul, adding, “We cannot let this go on. People have to stand up against it.”
