The political heat is escalating around the AL led 14 party and BNP’s programmes to be held on Saturday (Sept 29).
The fourteen party alliance has declared that any effort towards conspiracy or taking over Dhaka will be resisted. On the other hand, BNP has said that they will turn their rally into a sea of people.
However, leaders of both parties are unperturbed since rallies of opposing sides have been held in the past without any major hiccup.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police have not given any decision on the rallies as yet. DMP, deputy commissioner of the media and publicity department, Masudur Rahman, said: “we will be able to tell you on Wednesday (today).”
Spokesperson of the 14 party, Mohammad Nasim, said: “Dhaka had always been in our control, not just Dhaka, the whole country will be under the control of Sheikh Hasina.”
He called all party workers to be alert about possible conspiracy plots.
President of Workers’ Party, an ally of the fourteen party alliance, Rashed Khan Menon, said: “we do not know why BNP changed the date from Sept 27 to the 29, but we do not have any problems with this.”
BNP does not have the power to counter the 14 party alliance, he asserted.
Meanwhile, BNP’s joint secretary general did not say why the date of the rally was changed from Sept 27 to the 29th.
But BNP sources say that the dates were changed since the work to finalise 7 point demands and 12 point objectives is not complete as yet.
BNP standing committee member, Nazrul Islam Khan, told Bangla Tribune: “there isn’t any conspiracy here, 14 party will have a conference in a hall room whereas BNP will be at the Suhrawardy field.”
Shahiduzzaman Dudu said: “the BNP congregation will be against corruption and irregularities plaguing the government.”
BNP is undaunted he declared.
