Barrister Abdur RazzaqLondon-based barrister Abdur Razzaq, also assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh is visiting the US in October to meet Trump Administration officials, a top American terrorist watch group said Monday.
US-based ‘The Investigative Project on Terrorism’ raised objections to the visit of Razzaq and his meetings in Washington, arguing that Jamaat advocates hardline Islamism and has engaged in brutal violence for decades.
Razzaq is also set to meet members of think-tanks and Congressional staffers
“Policymakers should not be placing its operatives on guest lists; they belong on terror lists,” the terrorist watch group said in a report. “Are DC officials aware of who exactly they are meeting?” the watch group asked.
The Investigative Project on Terrorism alleged that Jamaat-e-Islami has committed violent acts all across South Asia and, today, the Bangladeshi branch is closely involved with Islamist terror in both Bangladesh and India.
“JI leaders have openly expressed support for Taliban terrorists and mourned their deaths,” it said adding that in 2017, the US government designated Hizbul Mujahideen, a Kashmiri jihadist group and JI Pakistan's "militant wing," as a terrorist organization.
