Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi was addresing media briefing. FILE PHOTOThe BNP has described the recently-formed medical board for jailed party chief Khaleda Zia as “noting but a mockery” as it has excluded doctors preferred by the former premier and her family.
“Khaleda Zia is the victim of government’s vengeance due to her popularity,” senior leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told the media on Saturday.
He claimed the people are very well aware that the charges brought against Khaleda were false and baseless.
“And that’s exactly why the government is conspiring to deprive her from proper treatment. Khaleda Zia is not being entitled to treat by her preferred doctors ... They have ignored her and the family’s call and formed a medical board with pro-Awami League doctors,” he told a press conference at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters.
The doctors in the board will report to Awami League chief and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, claimed BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi.
“The treatment she will be given will be in line with Sheikh Hasina’s instruction... it’s nothing but a mockery to a severely ill person,” he said calling the government to include the party chief’s personal doctors in the medical board.
On the Digital Security bill tabled in the House, he said it will effectively muzzle press freedom and that it has been designed to “totally control the media”.
“The law will not allow any kind of investigative reporting against state-level corruption. It will be defined as espionage. It’s not only worrying, but contradicts with the Constitution,” said the senior BNP leader.
