Senior BNP leader Barrister Moudud Ahmed has said that a national unity is a reality now.
“All political parties want to work together for the sake of ensuring the upcoming election to be free and fair. So, I’d say that this unity is already a reality. Dr Kamal Hossain, B Chowdhury, Mahmudur Rahman Manna, ASM Abdur Rab and even the leaders of leftist coalitions are saying the same thing today. Therefore, national unity has been forged,” he said at an event at the capital’s National Press Club on Friday.
Ahemd, a standing committee member of BNP also said, “The government does not want this national unity. But, it will be formed. All the political parties which want to bring back democracy, rule of law and independnce of the judiciary are in agreement on the issue.”
Referring to the ruling Awami League, he said, “They will say a lot of things out of jealousy. I will not comment on all their remarks. I usually don’t.”
In response to Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Kader’s comment that the BNP Secretary General had gone to the United Nations to complain, Ahmed said, “He didn’t go there to complain but to tell them the reality of the country.”
“Members and leaders of the opposition are facing lawsuits and enforced disappearance without any reason. Our Secretary General has gone to the UN to present that reality and the government is worried, jealous and embarrassed,” he added.
