Police clear confusion over movement in Dhaka

Deserted street at capital Dhaka's financial hub of Motijheel.With proper health and safety measures, any citizen can commute in Dhaka city. Restaurants, eateries and bakeries will remain open as many people do not have access to and means of cooking.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam sent these directives to police officials working in the field to clarify the confusion over the movement of people in the city.

Md. Masudur Rahman, deputy commissioner of DMP media division told an English national that people can use any means of transport in line with health guidelines.

The police commissioner has also asked the officers to ensure the free movement of those involved in the restaurant business.

Shops and stores of essential commodities will remain open too, the DMP chief said, adding that the workers at shops should be allowed to move around freely in Dhaka city.

The directive asked the law enforcers to ensure the safety of people engaged in providing emergency services, such as medical doctors, nurses, healthcare givers and technicians and security personnel.

People tasked with providing emergency services were asked to do their duties by maintaining social distancing.
