Three times prime minister and BNP chief Khaleda Zia has the status of a common prisoner.
Inspector General of Prisons Brigadier General Syed Iftekhar Uddin in responding to a question on Sunday said, “According to the jail code, she will get the treatment what the common prisoners get.”
About the food facilities provided to Khaleda Zia, the IG Prisons said, "She is being provided food as a common prisoner. We are allowing only dry foods and fruits brought by her well-wishers and relatives.”
About the division in the prison, he said, “We will provide her with division and other facilities after issuing of such court order,” he added.
When asked if Khaleda Zia is wearing a prisoner's dress, the IG Prisons said, “According to the jail code, she would wear prisoner’s clothes.”
It is to be noted that the 5th Special Judge Court has sentenced Khaleda Zia to five years imprisonment on Thursday (Feb 8) in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
She was taken as a prisoner to the old central jail immediately after the verdict was announced on that day.
She is staying in the jail for the past four days.
