Councillor Rajib on fresh remand

RAB detained Tarequzzaman Rajib from a house at Bashundhara Residential area in Dhaka on Oct 19.A court in Dhaka has ordered fresh remand Dhaka North City Councillor Tarekuzzaman Rajib in a case under the arms act.
On Monday (Nov 11), Metropolitan Magistrate Debdas Chandra Adhikary granted police four days to interrogate Rajib in custody, said the court’s General Register Officer SI Liakat Hossain.
On Nov 4, the court sent Rajib to jail rejecting his bail plea in two separate cases filed under narcotics and arms acts after he was produced by police following a 14-day remand.
A councillor of Dhaka North's Ward-33, Rajib was arrested during a raid by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from the capital's Bashundhara Residential Area on Oct 19.
During the raid, RAB seized seven bottles of foreign liquor, a pistol and ammunition for it, Tk 33,000 in cash, and a passport from the flat.
RAB later searched his Mohammadpur residence and offices, only to find a bank cheque worth Tk 50 million.
The next day, the elite police unit brought charges under the arms and narcotics legislations before handing over him to the police.
