HC orders Cumilla court to dispose of Khaleda’s bail plea by Jul 26

Former PM Khaleda Zia has been sentenced to five years in jail in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. BANGLA TRIBUNE/Nashirul IslamThe High Court (HC) has directed a Cumilla Special Judge Court to dispose of the bail petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in an arson case within Jul 26.
The HC bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM MoziburRahman passed the order on Monday.
"The Cumilla Court fixed Aug 8 to hold the hearing on a bail petition filed on Jul 1 showing Khaleda arrested in the case," said her lawyer Masud Rana.
The HC's instruction came on Monday in view of a bail plea in the case before it, he added.
Eight people were killed and 20 others injured when miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram of Cumilla district during the BNP-led alliance's movement on Feb 3, 2015.
A case was filed against Khaleda in this connection on Feb 15.
On Mar 2, 2017, charge sheet was submitted under the Special Powers Act.
Khaleda's legal aides prayed to the HC to scrap the case on May 27.
On Feb 8, Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after a special court sentenced her to five years' rigorous imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
