Police and the administration are conducting the excavation.Authorities have opened an excavation at a property in Dhaka’s Mirpur in search of a possible ‘hidden treasure’.
The digging at a property on Road-16 (Block-C) of Mirpur Section-10 is being administered by the Dhaka district administration.
Executive Magistrate Anwar-uz-Zaman was briefing the media on the excavation on Saturday (July 21).After digging for nearly four and half hours on Saturday, Executive Magistrate Anwar-uz-Zaman, who is in charge of the whole process, said they have suspended the excavation for the day.
“Workers have reached four and a half feet from the surface level. But we have stopped as it seems further digging may cause the building to cave in as the foundation is weak. We will continue the process after consulting with experts. If that’s possible by tomorrow then the digging will resume. Police will be in charge of the property until then,” he told the media around 3pm.

Earlier around 10:30am, workers started digging at the property.
Police and the administration are conducting the excavation.

The property’s owner Manirul Alam told Bangla Tribune that he bought the house in 2010 from one Selim Reza through the Housing Department.
“I employed two caretakers— Shafiqul Islam and Sujan, who lived on the property. There were tenants, who have been recently told to vacate as there are plans to demolish the house for constructing a new building,” he said.
Police and the administration are conducting the excavation. On the night of Jul 12, some men tried to enter the property, Alam said before adding: “They claimed of treasure being buried under the house. The men included one Abu Taiyab.”
Police said Taiyab, a resident of Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf, filed a report with Mirpur police on Jul 10, where he stated his relatives used to live in the house during the 1971 war, who buried at least 40 kg gold before leaving for Pakistan.
“On Jul 14, the property’s owner Manirul Islam also filed a general diary and sought police’s help to look into the issue,” said Mirpur police OC Dadan Fakir.
Asked whether they were running a background check of Taiyab, the police officer said, “We have started the process. The Teknaf police have been informed.”
