Admission tests at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) for the academic year 2019-20 has begun from Monday (Oct 14) morning.Admission tests at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) for the academic year 2019-20 has begun from Monday (Oct 14) morning.
Against 1060 seats, 12161 are giving admission exam, which means, 11 persons are competing for each seat. This year, 16288 applied and of them, 12161 were allowed to sit for the test.
BUET students who were protesting for the enforcement of their ten point demands, following the killing of Abrar Fahad, relaxed their programmes to allow the admission test.
A parent who had come with his son for the admission exam said: “We want revocation of all kinds of political activities at BUET.”
Another parent Rashedul Huq, observed: “Abrar’s mother is my school friend; she went to Jagannath College but to ensure proper education for her children, did not go to a full time employment; student politics should be banned at all academic institutions.”
Another parent said in a grieving tone: “We don’t want politics that takes away a son from his mother forever.”
“We sent them to an institution to study and not to do anything else,” observed a parent.
“The voice or the opinion of the general people do not have any value; whether politics will remain at the academic institutions or not depends on the government.”
