Two days after the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) authorities banned the student politics on the campus in the aftermath of Abrar Fahad's murder, protesting students have removed political banners and festoons from the university.
"Students informed the hall provosts before removing banners and festoon of the political organizations. Besides, several wall writings have been erased to paint graffiti on Abrar," BUET Directorate of Students’ Welfare Director Mizanur Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
Students also renamed a corner of the university cafeteria as "Mukti (freedom) Corner", previously known as "Chhatra League Corner" as the leaders and activists of the ruling party's student body often spent time there.
They also erased the name of 'Chhatra League' from the wall.
On spot visits, no political banners, festoons, wall writings were seen at Ahasan Ullah Hall and Shere Bangla Hall, where Abrar was beaten to death.
Students were also seen painting graffiti on the walls across the university demanding justice for Abrar.
"Walls will be painted with representation on how Abrar was beaten to death by Chhatra League members," said a student on condition of anonymity.
The BUET students also want to give a message on Abrar murder to thousands of students and their guardians who will throng on the campus during the entrance test, to be held on Monday and Tuesday.
"We want to remember Abrar forever," said the student.
Director Rahaman said, "Activities of student political organizations are banned on the campus now and we aim to implement it.
"If anyone violates will face action as per the university act," he added.
