The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition filed by BNP Standing Committee member Moudud Ahmed, seeking review of its earlier order which had upheld the High Court directive clearing the way to continue the trial proceedings of a corruption case against him.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division, headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, dismissed the review petition on Sunday (Aug 25).
Moudud Ahmed stood for his petition while Khurshid Alam Khan represented the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
On May 14, the apex court upheld the High Court order that paved the way to continue the trial proceedings against Moudud.
The ACC filed the case with Gulshan police station on Sept 16, 2007 against Moudud on charges of acquiring illegal wealth worth Tk 73.8 million and concealing information about his wealth worth Tk 44 million.
On Apr 8 this year, the High Court rejected a revision petition, filed by the BNP leader challenging the lower court order that dismissed his application, for halting the trial proceedings.
In the revision petition, Moudud also made a plea to the the High Court to stay the trial proceedings against him.
Later, Moudud filed the leave to appeal petition with the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order.
