Nearly 1,900 hospitalised with dengue in 24hr

FILE PHOTOAs many as 1,880 people have been hospitalised with dengue-related fever across Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the patients, 755 people were admitted at different hospitals in Dhaka and another 1,125 were elsewhere, the DGHS said a bulletin on Wednesday (Aug 14).
Dengue, a mosquito-borne virus, spreads among humans through its carrier Aedes mosquito.
The total number of admitted patients currently undergoing treatment now stands at 7,865. Of which 4,143 are receiving treatment in Dhaka and 3,726 are outside the capital.
According to the bulletin, the admission rate of dengue patients was very low in the last week.
On Aug, a total of 2,334 patients took admission at the different hospital across Bangladesh, which was at 2,093 on Aug 12.
As of Aug 14, a total of 46,351 people have been affected by dengue this year.
Among those admitted, a total of 38,882 have been released from their respective hospitals and clinics after treatment.
According to official estimates, dengue has claimed 40 lives so far since Jan 1 this year while the unofficial death toll is over 80.
