Gas price hike remains effective

The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal rejected the petition on Tuesday (Jul 9).
Following the order, the new gas price will remain effective.
Earlier, Supreme Court lawyer Eunus Ali Akond filed the petition with the High Court.
The government raised the price of gas from Jul 1, in eight categories—including that of household users, despite persistent opposition from consumer rights groups.
According to the latest announcement by Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC), the new weighted average price of gas at the consumer level is Tk 9.8 per cubic foot, a 32% increase from Tk 7.38.
On Sunday (Jul 7), the Left Democratic Alliance (LDA) observed a half-day nationwide general strike to protest the latest hike in gas price.
