Anwar Choudhury was suspended from the post earlier in June, months after he took up the position in March.Bangladeshi-British diplomat Anwar Choudhury, who was recalled to London from the Cayman Island’s where he served as the governor, allegedly bullied staff, had drunken rows and demanded a shirtless massage from a maid, reports the Daily Mail.
Choudhury was suspended from the post earlier in June, months after he took up the position in March.
He faces a string of complaints related to his treatment of domestic staff, office employees and even his wife, according to the Mail.
Employees say he shouted at and bullied them. He allegedly requested a maid to massage his shirtless back, a request she said she found inappropriate.
MPs on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for the Cayman Islands said they were aware of the allegations against Choudhury.
“Anwar Choudhury has been temporarily withdrawn from his post to allow the FCO to investigate a number of complaints against him,” the Foreign & Commonwealth Office said on Saturday.
“It is inappropriate to comment further while an investigation is ongoing.”
Born in Sylhet, Choudhury has served as the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh between 2004 and 2008.
Months after taking the helm of the UK mission in Dhaka, he was targeted in a grenade attack in Sylhet, in which he was wounded and three others were killed.
Citing sources, the Daily Mail report said he also misbehaved with his wife and had engaged in a drunken argument with his mother-in-law.
