A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoThe High Court has issued a rule asking authorities concerned to explain as to why it will not give an order to install air conditioners (AC) in courtrooms across Bangladesh.
The bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan and Justice KM Kamrul Kader gave the order on Sunday (Jun 23) after hearing a petition.
Secretaries to the ministries of law, power, finance, and housing and public works have been told to respond within four weeks.
On Apr 11, lawyer Moksed Ali filed a public interest litigation plea with High Court.
Lawyers and justice seekers suffer in intense heat during summer which hampers the trial proceedings, he told the media after Sunday’s hearing.
“If ACs can be installed in all the courtrooms, all people concerned can work comfortably and it is a part of modernisation of judiciary too,” he added.
