The detainee, Abdus Salam, was on a Singapore Airlines flight that landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Singapore around 10.40pm on Monday (May 27).Customs authorities have detained one man with 103 gold bars weighing 10.3 kilograms at Dhaka airport.
The detainee, Abdus Salam, was on a Singapore Airlines flight that landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport from Singapore around 10.40pm on Monday (May 27), said Airport Customs Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury.
Chowdhury said that Salam was being monitored from the boarding bridge and he was asked to declare any taxable items once he crossed the green channel.
Salam denied carrying any such items and didn’t co-operate with authorities while searching him. The archway machine after a long search found traces of metal in his pocket, said the DC.
Chowdhury added that two packets wrapped with scotch tape were found in various parts of the trousers Salam was wearing.
“A total of 103 gold bars each weighing 100 grams were found in those two packets,” said Chowdhury.
Salam has been handed over to the police after legal action was taken against him under the Customs Act, 1969 and Special Powers Act, 1974.
