HC orders lab testing of raw milk, dairy products

The Bangladesh Standards Testing Institute (BSTI) and Bangladesh Food Safety Authority (BFSA) has been ordered to file the report on the lab test by Jun 23.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justic KM Hafizul Alam passed the order on Tuesday (May 21).
Advocate Mohammad Faridul Islam moved for BFSA, Barrister Sarkar MR Hassan (Mamun) for BSTI while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik and Assistant Attorney General Helena Begum Chaina stood for the state.
Advocate Sayed Mamun Mahbub moved for Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).
During the hearing on Tuesday, Professor Dr Shahnila Ferdousi, head of national food safety laboratory, appeared before the bench along with the study report.
Several national dailies in the country on Feb 11 published a report by public health institute saying that harmful elements have been found in the dairy products.
It said that although the scale of microorganisms was not supposed to cross the scale of 4 in lose powder milk, the test found it to be 7.66.
Lawyer Mamun Mahbub then brought the matter to the HC after which BFSA was ordered to form a 16 member committee to look into the matter.
