Nusrat murder: Sonagazi AL leader Ruhul Amin held

Awami League’s Sonagazi upazila unit President Ruhul AminThe Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Feni has taken Awami League’s Sonagazi upazila unit President Ruhul Amin to their custody to quiz him in the Nusrat Jahan Rafi murder case.
Amin was detained on Friday (Apr 19) afternoon, Additional Superintendent of Police of PIB’s Chattogram rang Mohammad Iqbal told Bangla Tribune.
Feni’s PIB ASP Moniruzzaman told Bangla Tribune that Amin was detained from “his native village”.
“Name of Amin has come in the confession of several accused,” said ASP Iqbal adding he is in the PIB’s custody for now.
Amin is one of the 12 people who were implicated in the Apr 6 attack on Nusrat based on the confessional statements of two accused in the case.
According to the confessional statements of Nuruddin and Shahadat Hossain Shamim, after now suspended Sonagazi Islamia Fazil (Degree) Madrasa Principal Md Sirajuddaula was arrested last month in a rape attempt case filed by Nusrat’s family, AMin  instructed Nuruddin and Shahadat to initiate a movement demanding Sirajuddaula’s release from jail.
Sonagazi Municipality Councillor Maksud Alam, who is also currently in police custody, had also given Nuruddin and Shahadat Tk 10,000 for the job.
Later, another teacher of the madrasa also gave the duo Tk 5,000 to stage a demonstration and burn Nusrat to death.
Alim examinee Nusrat was set ablaze on the roof of the madrasa on Apr 6 morning by four burqa-clad assailants after she refused to withdraw the case against Sirajuddaula.
The 18-year-old, with 80 percent burns on her body, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Apr 10.
