FILE PHOTOThe High Court has directed Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) to decide on Suprobhat Paribahan's application to resume their bus service within 30 days.
The bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order; after hearing a writ petition filed by Advocate Abu Yahia Dulal, representing the bus company, on Tuesday.
Dulal said: "BRTA sent a letter to Suprobhat Paribahan to stop their bus service and asked for all the legal documents received by them regarding permission to operate on March 20.
"Responding to BRTA's order, the bus company halted its operation and submitted all the documents demanded. Despite this BRTA did not respond and disposed of the matter."
"Later, on Apr 1, the bus company sent a letter to the BRTA requesting for a quick solution to the proceeding matter. However, BRTA again did not respond.
"Following this, on April 8, the company sent a legal notice to BRTA to respond within 24 hours, seeking permission to start their bus service. Then we filed a writ petition to the High Court as BRTA did not respond to our notice on Monday," he added.
Previously, on Mar 20, the High Court directed Suprobhat Paribahan to give Tk 1 million after the hearing on a petition seeking compensation for the victim's family.
The court also issued a ruling asking the authorities concerned, and the bus company, to explain why they should not be directed to compensate Abrar's family with Tk 50 million within four weeks.
