A Turkish businessman who had come to Dhaka on business lost his I-phone at the Dhaka airport. The loss of the phone was devastating since he used it to operate bank accounts in five countries.
He swiftly contacted the Turkish embassy and then the issue went to the cyber security and crime department of the counter terrorism unit.
After three days of relentless effort, the phone was recovered and handed over to the businessman.
Deputy-commissioner of cyber security and crime, Md Alimuzzaman, said, “We recovered the phone using technology.”
With the help of immigration police, a person called Laltu was identified, who had been deported from Malaysia.
Then a thorough inspection of the airport’s CCTV footage found another person, called Aser Uddin, who is also a deportee from Malaysia.
Following a lead, the police went to Jessore and recovered the phone.
Aser said that since he saw the phone lying around, he decided to take it, instead of submitting it to the ‘lost and found’ section of the airport.
Since the man who took the phone has been deported, no legal action was taken against him.
The Turkish national could not believe that the police managed to find his phone and after getting his device, compared Bangladesh police with the best forces in the world.
If we failed to find the phone of a person who imports from Bangladesh, the country’s image would have suffered, we are happy we found it and managed to portray a positive image of Bangladesh, said a police official.
