Fraudulent appointment practices continue to mar non-government schools and technical institutes. Exploiting loopholes in the existing systems, teachers are being appointed.
However, this deception is caught in MPOs. Reportedly, no step is taken against those who are involved in this unlawful practice.
Allegedly, in Natore, seven teachers were given appointment through unscrupulous practices.
When the fraud was discovered in an investigation, the MPO of the seven teachers were suspended.
The secondary education board also show caused as to why steps should not be taken against the school.
Though the secondary education board warned the school, it did not take any step against members of the managing committee.
Education officer, Chandra Shekhar Halder, told Bangla Tribune: “a separate letter has been sent to the education board to take measures against those linked to the dishonest practice.”
MPO money was asked from teachers who were given the money.
Chandra Shekhar Halder says: “there are plenty of instances of fraud and letters have been sent to ask for the return of salary and benefits.”
Director of secondary school education, Dr. Abdul Mannan, says: “the fraud is done for monetary benefits but everything is revealed during investigation; we have taken a strong stance.”
Reportedly, in collusion with the managing committee, the principal of Chatmohor College in Pabna, appointed his wife as a social science teacher.
Additional secretary of the ministry of education, Jabed Ahmed, says: “there are countless allegations of corruption and arbitrary behavior against the education council and to counter this, we have adopted a zero tolerance approach.”
Professor Dr. Abdul Mannan, adds: “the jurisdiction to take measures under the existing system falls under the education board.”
Usually education board takes our suggestions but once the current law is amended, corruption will fall, he added.
Dhaka Board chairman, Professor Ziaul Huq, says: “we take steps as per the power entrusted to us and are given the authority to dissolve the managing committee.”
There is, however, no precedent for any legal action taken against any council.
