Unlike others, Rozina Begum has taken a profession that few women dare. She drives a battery-run rickshaw in Dhaka to earn a living.
In Bangladesh, it’s quite unusual when you notice a woman who pulls a rickshaw.
A person with disability, Rozina continues to defy all odds as she drives a battery-run rickshaw in Dhaka’s Bou Bazar area.
Rozina, who lives in the area, earns between Tk 600 and Tk 700 daily. Rozina manages to take only half of the amount as she has to pay Tk 350 to the vehicle owner.
With more or less Tk 300, she bears her family expenses and the education cost of her son and daughter.
Asked whether she faces harassment, Rozina told Bangla Tribune, “I don’t encounter any trouble rather everyone cooperates.
Many even take selfies with her, she added.

On Friday (Mar 8), Rozina along with other women participated in a proagmme at the city’s Manik Mia Avenue on the occasion of International Women’s Day thus inspired others never to give up.
