Two ACC officials dismissed for abuse of power

Anti Corruption Commission BangladeshThe Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has fired one of its assistant directors and suspended a second one for abuse of power and negligence.
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told Bangla Tribune Assistant Director SM Shamim Iqbal of Khulna office has been sacked while Dinajpur-based official Bir Kanta Roy was suspended.
According to sources at the graft watchdog, Iqbal was found guilty on intentionally delaying the filing of charges in court of an investigation.
Following an internal probe, he was fired on Sunday. Iqbal will be deprived from all retirement benefits.
Assistant Director Roy in Dinajpur was put on suspension as it has been found he delayed a loan fraud investigation in collusion with the suspect. He was suspended on Monday.
“The disciplinary actions have been taken to ensure no officials or staffers engage in corruption. More stringent measure will be taken to ensure accountability,” ACC Director General (Administration) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury.
